PTCA
(Percutaneous
Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty)
Angioplasty allows the cardiologist to open clogged
arteries by compressing the fatty build up against the
artery walls. A catheter is guided to the area of
blockage and the balloon which is located at the tip of
the catheter is inflated and deflated many times to
compress the fatty build up and open the artery to allow
better blood flow through the artery.
-
ATHERECTOMY
Atherectomy is a procedure that utilizes a different
kind of catheter to remove the fatty build up (plaque)
that attaches to the artery walls.
-
STENT
The placement of a coronary stent usually proceeds a
coronary catherization and angioplasty . The stent is a
metal devise that is placed permanently inside
an artery to keep that artery open for blood flow.
